Ginowan demands all Futenma flights stop

Date Posted: 2006-04-01

Ginowan City Assembly has renewed its demand the U.S. Marines suspend all air activities from Futenma Marine Corps Air Station.

Meeting in its final session Monday, the assembly unanimously agreed the risks are increasing as flight activities build at Futenma. Their demand has been sent to a host of government officials, including Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

“The “government should sincerely accept the reality that Ginowan City considers this base a danger”, the statement said. It asks that the central government immediately take steps to close Futenma and transfer its operations elsewhere. In the interim, it wants flights stopped.
