New airline to launch local cargo services

Date Posted: 2006-03-10

Businesses shipping products to mainland Japan will soon find it possible to get their goods there more quickly.

Sagawa Express Company is launching a new Tokyo ~ Naha cargo flight schedule on a new Galaxy Airline. President Junichi Ogawara, operating from Tokyo, says the new cargo service will operate six days each week.

Each flight will be able to carry 50 tons of cargo to or from Okinawa. Flights will depart Naha each night at midnight, with an early morning arrival in Tokyo. Ogawara says it will reduce congestion at Naha Airport, and allow shippers to be more timely.

Instead of two-day service to Tokyo, the Galaxy Airlines system will allow one-day deliveries, which Ogawara says “will help a lot of people.” Ogawara acknowledged its Tokyo ~ Naha business isn’t so good right now, and says he’s looking for new business.
