Suspect being held in 2005 homicides

Date Posted: 2006-03-03

A 66-year-old man is considered a suspicious party involved in last yearís murder of a 69-year-old woman.

Her body, along with that of a taxi driver, were found in the trunk of a car that had been pushed over a cliff and left dangling from a tree branch. The car was found by accident by a passing motorist.

Police at first thought it was simply a car accident, but then found the bodies in the trunk.

Takezo Yonekura is thought to be the culprit, since he had borrowed money from the woman, who owned a snack. Prosecutors say he did it because he couldnít repay the loan. Yonekura has constantly denied the charge and says ďNo, I didnít kill her. I donít know anything about her death.

The two victims were found wrapped in blankets in the car trunk. Okinawa Prefecture Police sent a letter to the prosecutorís office, asking that Yonekura be indicted. Police say theyíre keeping some evidence confidential as part of their investigation.
