Counterfeit bills passed by Camp Kinser teen

Date Posted: 2006-03-03

An 18-year-old military dependent has been arrested by Urasoe Police and charged with counterfeiting US currency, then distributing it.

The boy was caught passing the fake $10 bills at an Amusement Game Center in Urasoe City last month. He first passed off five of the bills on February 23rd and 24th, alerting a center clerk. The game center was then watched very carefully, with police photographing the action.

When the youth showed up again Monday, police were standing by. A quick call from the clerk, followed by stalling the boy’s exchange effort, led to the arrest. Police say the American teen was the only patron exchanging American dollars for yen. They say the U.S. bills were poor counterfeits, because both front and back surfaces had been pasted up, and the colors were weak.
