New resort slated for Ginowan City

After several years of wrangling and failed efforts, Ginowan City has begun developing its second land reclamation area near Okinawa Convention Center.

A Tokyo-based real estate company is set to begin building Okinawa Ginowan Bay Resort.

Construction on the ¥13,500,000,000 project is to begin next year, with a 2008 grand opening.

Company president Yoshinobu Shoji says the facility will be an eco-tourism style resort featuring both hotel operations and 300 condominiums.

He promises the resort will be the premier recreation and relaxation spot on the island, built on the premise of long term occupancy and a city style hotel. It is to offer outdoor activities including pools, sports halls, gardens and eateries.

There will also be a hospital within the complex, calling itself a total health center. It will offer food nutrition counseling, mental health counseling, rehabilitation facilities. Shouji notes there will be a number of restaurants on the grounds, along with an amusement park and shopping mall. The new Okinawa Ginowan Bay Resort near the Okinawa Convention Center will employ more than 900 staff.

This is the second area of Ginowan’s redevelopment plan to move forward. In the first land reclamation area. A new Okinawa Intercontinental Hotel is planned for the area. The city is still looking for a project operator for its third reclamation area.
