Adultery conviction sends Marine to jail

Date Posted: 2006-02-24

Fraternizing and adultery were enough to transform a Marine’s career as a gunnery sergeant into a bust down to private.

A special court martial has convicted Marine Gunnery Sergeant Kurt M. Martinez of fraternizing with a junior enlisted woman and engaging in adultery. The conviction came in a trial at Keystone Judicial Circuit Court.

The 31-year-old Marine, assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, was found guilty of crimes committed while the unit was on temporary duty in South Korea. Officials say other charges of rape and sodomy were not pursued.
