Lawmakers divulge assets and debts

Real estate holdings are making Okinawa’s seven members of the House of Representatives wealthy men.

Seiji Nakamura of the Liberal Democracy Party leads the list of well heeled lawmakers with assets totaling Y674,150,000. The disclosure of assets and debts is required by Japanese law.

Nakamura’s ranked s one of the five richest politicians in Japan. His real estate holdings, mostly in the Oroku area and in Saitama Prefecture, include 59 pieces of land, as well as seven apartment buildings.

Nakamura inherited much of his property wealth from his parents. He also has significant stock holdings totaling more than 43,400. The Okinawa lawmaker also listed a Y49,930,000 loan debt.

Independent lawmaker Mikio Shimoji reports holdings of Y13,740,000, with buildings and property in Asato. He also holds a Y33,930,000 loan. Socialist Party member Kantoku Teruya has land and buildings valued at Y38,730,000 and savings of Y24,000,000. He also has a golf country club membership.

Kousaburo Nishime of the Liberal Democracy Party reports a home and land listed at Y21,440,000, savings accounts and a golf club membership. Seiken Akamine of the Communist Party lists a home and land in Naha valued at Y6,780,000, as well as Y660,000 in savings.

Osamu Ashitomi has Y18,510,000 in property holdings and a home. He also holds a golf club membership.
