Miyazato fails in first shot on menís tour

Date Posted: 2005-12-22

Ai Miyazato couldnít make anything work right in her first outing on the menís professional golf tour.

The Okinawa native was making her first appearance in the Asia ĖJapan-Okinawa Golf Tournament, a menís tournmanent being played through gusty winds on Okinawa. She found herself up against the wall from the start, running up a triple bogey on the par four first hole. It didnít get any better, as she rolled through six bogeys, a double bogey and four birdies to finish the round with a seven over 78.

The 20-year-old missed the cut at Naha Golf Club, finishing with a 36-hole total 16 over par 158 on the par 71 course. It was a stunning for Miyazato, who had only days earlier earned her U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour Card for 2006 in Florida. ďI was too much putting strain on myself,Ē is all the Higashi Village gal would say.

Two of her three brothers were on the links as well, including older brother Kiyoshi, the Asia-Japan-Okinawa Golf Tournament defending champion. He made it through the midway cut, while her other brother, Yusaku, missed by three.

This was the final 2005 golf tour event.
