Okinawa City says ‘No Thanks’ to Kadena plan

Governments are discussing a plan to integrate Japanese Air Self Defense Forces into the Kadena Air Base community, and a neighbor says ‘don’t do it!’

Okinawa City’s Assembly, in its final session before the holidays, adopted a position opposing plans to move JASDF forces to Kadena. The U.S. and Japanese governments think the plan is a good one, allowing for integrated training operations as part of the U.S. Forces Japan realignment.

The plan calls for moving the JASDF from Naha Air Base to Kadena Air Base, where it can participate in Air Self Defense Training and share the process of U.S. military realignment.
