Date Posted: 2005-12-15

A 42-year-old man remains in a coma after being struck by a car Monday morning in Yomitan.

Hospital authorities say the victim is in critical condition, and has not regained consciousness since the accident. The hit-and-run incident occurred around 7:50am in the Namihira Area, on route 12.

The victim was struck by a small car, which then fled the scene. An eyewitness described the scene to police, saying “I saw a small car hitting a man, and the small car was running away.” Police say their investigation led to Yoshitsune Miyagi of Yomitan Village.

The 62-year-old Miyagi admits “Yes I did hit him. I was drunk that night and I was still drunk the next day, so I was afraid of getting arrested. When apprehended Tuesday, Miyagi still tested 0.45mililiters of alcohol in his system.
