Helicopter lands at Army training range

Date Posted: 2005-12-08

The churning sound of helicopter rotors over Kin Town and Camp Hansen irritated residents Monday.

The helicopter was landing at the Army Training Range at the Marine base. Range 4 has been a sore spot with area residents, who contend the site is dangerous because itís too close to populated areas. The Monday flight was the first since the range opened a few months ago. Witnesses say the helicopter hovered over the range, apparently conducting training.

Angry citizens say the military also conducted live fire training at Range 4 on Monday. They say both actions endanger their communities. They point to a high voltage power line running through the base in the area where the helicopter was conducting operations as a sign the military is oblivious to their safety concerns.
