Giant American cargo plane lands at Futenma

Date Posted: 2005-12-08

Irate Ginowan citizens were dismayed over the weekend to see a lumbering C-5 Galaxy US Air Force cargo plane touch down at Futenma Marine Corps Air Station.

Amidst their demands aircraft and helicopter flights over their city be reduced or eliminated, the largest aircraft in the US inventory flew over Nishihara and Nakagusuku, landing in mid-afternoon. The huge cargo plane brought three Marine Corps CH46 cargo helicopters to Futenma.

Officials say it is the first time in more than five years a C-5 Galaxy landed at Futenma. It later took off over Nodake and flew to Kadena Air Base. A huge Russian cargo plane landed at Futenma only a couple weeks ago, also adding to the noise and safety concerns expressed by the city’s officials and residents.
