Legion leaders, Kadena CG to serve Thanksgiving dinners

Date Posted: 2005-11-24

Airmen filing into Marshall Dining Facility on Kadena Air Base today may find the food service team looking a bit older and more mature than normal.

Brigadier General Jan-Marc Jouas, 18th Wing Commander, will be dishing out the turkey and all the trimmings together with the National Commander of the American Legion, the District Legion Commander, and the local American Legion post commander.

Thomas C. Bock, who assumed command of the 2.7 million member American Legion only three months ago, is visiting Okinawa as he acquaints himself with worldwide Legion operations. He is being escorted by Okinawa District Commander Bill Kelly and Post 28 Commander Larry Henry. All three will be on the front lines with the troops, serving Thanksgiving fare today.

The entourage will also visit Kadena Officers Club for meetings and Thanksgiving. They will visit the World War II Museum at Camp Kinser later this afternoon. Bock, who served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War era, will receive briefings Friday from Brigadier General Jouas, who will soon be leaving Okinawa after being selected for a new assignment as Vice Commander, Air Intelligence Agency at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

An Aurora, Colorado native, Bock will also meet tomorrow with members of local American Legion Post 28 before heading to Taiwan.
