Alleged abuse leads teen to stab father

Date Posted: 2005-11-04

An 18-year-old Naha City man is in jail and his father is in an intensive care unit at a Naha hospital after a stabbing incident.

The boy, who lived with his mother in Naha after his parents’ divorce, had gone to his father’s home in Urasoe City. Once there, he asked his father “why have you been beating me? You’ve been doing it for a long time.”

The father reportedly said it was because “I want you to be a nice boy, of course,” at which time the son became enraged, pulled out a knife and stabbed his father in the back. Seeing the blood and hearing his father roaring in pain, the boy fled. The man was able to call and ambulance to report the attack.

In the hospital, the man described what happened. Police quickly went to the Naha home, but the boy wasn’t there. He was spotted in a nearby park, and surrendered to police. “My father has been beating me for a long time,” he told police. “I hate my father. I wanted to kill him.”

The father is alive and remains in the Intensive Care Unit with severe back injuries. The boy is being charged by Urasoe City Police.
