Court demands long jail term for child molester

Date Posted: 2005-10-28

The Naha District Prosecutor wants an Air Force sergeant to go to jail for 18 months for molesting an elementary school girl last summer.

Staff Sergeant Armando Valdez of Kadena Air Base had pleaded guilty to the charges last month, admitting he accosted a pair of young girls in Okinawa City July 3rd, then took them to a secluded location. There, he touched the 10-year-old, putting his hand inside her pants, then had her lift her tee shirt so he could take pictures of her chest and breasts with his cell phone. He told the court he’d been drinking the night previously, and had been looking for his misplaced car when he came upon the girls.

The Prosecutor, Masahisa Yokota, described the 27-year-old Valdez as “an extremely despicable person” for his actions. The second youngster, a nine-year-old girl, ran away and sought help.

Valdez has apologized to the family, and his attorney is asking the court to grant a suspended sentence. The prosecutor wants hard labor for Valdez. The court will rule on Nov. 17th.
