JASDF fighter loses dummy missile tipDate Posted: 2002-06-13 Because of the incident the Naha Airport was closed for five minutes while crews inspected the runway for the object, but nothing was found. A spokesman at the JASDF Naha PAO speculated that a bird might have collided with the missile tip causing it to fall off. He ruled out defective maintenance. gOur investigation concludes that there has been no mistakes made with maintenance,h he stated. He also said that it is likely that the part had fallen into the ocean. The fighter had been on a training mission in the area about 50 kms northwest from Naha Airport. The maintenance crew noticed the missing dummy missile tip when the aircraft landed. The pilot of the fighter said that he had noticed nothing unusual during the flight. |
