New graduate university takes another giant step

Date Posted: 2005-09-09

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University is a step closer to reality with inclusion of a new independent administration agency.

Nobel Prize winner Professor Sydney Brenner became president of the Okinawa Institute of Science & Technology Infrastructure Development Organization in ceremonies this week. The new organization will work from the OIST Research and Exchange Center in Uruma City.

Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine praised the new organization, noting “it is great that we’ve taken the first step toward a major development within Okinawa.” The organization will have 41 advanced projects researchers and a dozen administrative staff members for now, with its numbers growing as new projects come on line.

The OIST Infrastructure Development Organization will shift its operations to the main graduate university campus in Onna Village once renovation work is complete.
