Local teen girl busted after sneaking onto U.S. base

Date Posted: 2005-09-01

A 16-year-old Okinawa girl is in police custody after being apprehended by US military police on Camp Courtney.

The teen was caught as she was looking inside cars on the base. She told authorities she and a friend, who escaped during the incident, were planning to steal from the vehicles.

The two girls climbed over a fence about midnight Sunday, gaining access to the base. They were caught in the act by Army criminal investigators, but one teen escaped back over the fence before cops could catch her. The other student was turned over to Uruma City Police, who are questioning her for violating special measures law that covers trespassing with intent to commit a crime.

Uruma City Police say they are still looking for the other teen suspect.
