Date Posted: 2005-07-15

With the passing of a ceremonial US Marine Corps flag, control of Marine Corps Base Okinawa leadership moved to the hands of an Iraq veteran who first saw Okinawa service in the mid-1990ís.

Brig. Gen. Joseph Medina, who commanded the Expeditionary Strike Group Three in San Diego, and the Belleau Wood Strike Group through six months in Iraq, takes the helm from Brig Gen James F Flock.

Flock, a fighter pilot serving in his first non-operations assignment, is now enroute to a Pentagon assignment at Marine Corps Headquarters. He spent 22 months in Okinawa, overseeing an aggressive buildings renovations and new construction program.
