Japanese seaman arrested for murdering baby daughterDate Posted: 2005-07-02 Seaman Kazuya Kaneshiro was arrested by Tomishiro Police after he took the lifeless body of his daughter to a hospital emergency room. He first told police he beat the baby because “she had bad manners during mealtime, so I was trying to teach her manners.” He said the girl had never learned how to behave, so he beat her. Police say Kaneshiro beat the girl’s head repeatedly, adding that he’d been doing it since she was very small. The incident happened at Kaneshiro’s home in Oroku mid-evening Friday, after which he drove the girl to the hospital himself. Hospital officials say the girl had irreversible head trauma, so they called police. An autopsy revealed swelling on the brain and hemorrhages, accompanied by multiple bruises on her torso and arms. Police say Kaneshiro admitted to beating the girl often over an extended period. He was angry, police say, at having been abandoned by his wife, who is living separately. Kaneshiro, with his mother’s help, was raising the dead toddler, as well as a three-year-old girl. The couple divorced a year ago. The ex-wife is telling a chilling story to police, saying she told Okinawa Prefecture officials long ago that her husband was beating the girl. She describes contacting the Prefecture Children’s Counseling Center asking them to “please help my girls. My husband is abusing my daughters. She says the government officials did nothing. Meanwhile, police are now investigating the possibility of the older youngster being beaten. They say they’ll also be talking to the ex-wife about rumors of wife beating. |
