GI’s deny charges they trashed a local boutique

Date Posted: 2005-06-24

After weeks of calm and few incidents between American military personnel and the local community, five GI’s burst into a Gate 2 Street shop and began causing trouble.

The shop owner described the scene to police, telling how the five men entered the store and began screaming and shouting vulgar words and phrases. He told how the men ripped clothing from the shelves and displays, dumping them on the floor and stomping on them.

Police responded to the 61-year-old store owner’s plea, arriving in time to grab two of the fleeing Americans. They’d been trying to get away when the store owner shouted to the taxi driver to stop, and not let the pair escape. Three others are still at large.

U.S. Marine Dandy Tylong Partrow, 21, and Navy Seaman Albert Marpho Sarbeng, 20, are in custody. “No, we didn’t do anything wrong, we didn’t touch anything at all,” the insisted to police, but did admit to being in the store. The owner disagreed, telling police how the men surrounded one of his young Japanese employees and began screaming at her and harassing her. “I said stop, please go out, don’t disturb her,” the owner said. The men fled as they heard the owner calling police.
