Plaintive ‘Meow’ turns into Naha kittens rescue effort

Date Posted: 2005-04-28

A citizen out for a stroll heard crying coming from a ditch along the roadway.

He called the Naha Fire Department, which brought a pumper truck to the scene where they too heard sounds. The whining meow was coming from an area behind a narrow gap in the ditch wall, so they flushed water into the area for a half-hour to help the kitten escape.

It worked, but the sounds continued. Firemen put the kitten back inside, added more water, and then called again. This time, five kittens came out. A rescue fireman says “they got their life for the accident, so I hope they’ll be sturdy.”

Nishi Fire Department crewmen are keeping the kittens until today. Now they’re looking for people to take them. If you’re interested, call 867-9915.
