Monorail promotes itself and Naha with special culture map

Date Posted: 2005-04-19

A new map highlighting Naha City’s downtown area and its history is now being distributed by Yuirail, the local monorail operating company.

It is a “Downtown Yuirail Eco-trip Map” offered by the non-profit foundation Okinawa Environment Club located in the downtown Kokuba area. It features more than 3,000 tidbits of information on the city’s culture, historical sites, natural beauties and more. The map is based on the basic tourist map of Naha, but promoters say it has much additional information.

It shows the Yuirail stations, highlighted in different colors, surrounded by hotels, public facilities, walking streets, World Heritage historical spots, shrines and shopping data. The map company says illustrations add to the mapSs souvenir value, and said it’s a “perfect memory to an Okinawa visit.” One official added “we made a very original map. There are too many traveler maps and guide books around downtown, but ours is very special and original because it has many historical features

nobody ever noticed before. It will be a good guide book for tourists.”

There is an English version of the map available.
