Man rescues trapped dog from Higa River waters

Date Posted: 2005-04-19

A dog is wagging his tail in appreciation, and humans are praising a man who rescued the dog trapped in Okinawa City’s Ageda District in the Higa River.

The dog was trapped by his collar on river debris, and the swirling waters were causing him to drown. Spotted by a woman passing by, the dog found himself being rescued by a man who waded into the water to help.

“I was so impressed with the rescuers,” the woman who called for help said. “It was such a difficult place to get to, and the rescue man had to go down to the river bed by rope.” The rescuers was part of a team responding to the call for assistance.

The adult dog is fine, but rescuers have no idea who its owner is, or where it lives. Okinawa City officials are now asking who’s missing a dog. In the meantime, the dog is at the Okinawa City Health Center.

Anyone with information on the dog, described as 70cm tall, white color feet and a black neck collar, contact officials at 939-1212.
