New airline to offer late night flights to TokyoDate Posted: 2005-04-07 Skymark Air Lines says its daily runs will begin July 1st with a 10:30 p.m. departure from Tokyo to Okinawa, arriving at 1:10 a.m. Flights from Okinawa to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport will be at 3:30 a.m., with a 5:40 a.m. Tokyo arrival. There presently are no late night flights between Okinawa and mainland Japan. The flights will be daily except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The company’s president says the ¥20,000 one way ticket is a bargain, since it allows travelers to avoid staying overnight in Tokyo hotels, which are expensive. Prices will be slightly higher, ¥23,000, during Obon Festival. The new flights mean a change for Naha Airport, which now will remain open 24 hours five days per week. The current schedule has Skymark flights on the books until September 12th. Skymark will fly Boeing 767 aircraft, which carry 260 passengers. The president says “I believe this will bring business from young people who don’t care about staying up late, and who like their freedom.” He predicts a high volume of business, with many travelers choosing the night flights for greater flexibility in doing business and leisure activities in the Tokyo area. |
