Miyazato says ‘comfortable’ with current playing style

Date Posted: 2005-04-01

Okinawa’s teen golf idol says she’s very comfortable with her play in the Nabisco Ladies Professional Golf Tournament despite not scoring high.

Ai Miyazato, playing in only her second major LPGA tournament, finished 44th in a competition dominated by the sport’s top star, Anika Sorenstam.

Miyazato, from Okinawa’s northern Higashi Village, says “I did my best. It was a comfortable four days to play. This score is my best. “ She finished nine over par in the Rancho Mirage, California tournament.

She says “I don’t think I could do any better play than I did in the Nabisco Tournament. I’ve learned all kinds of things about myself. Now I’ll be a stronger player.” Miyazato says it’s more important to play all rounds than to win. Smiling as she met with fans and media, she told them “I’m not going to forget about this. I’ll be a big champion someday. I’m not giving up.”

Sweden’s Anika Sorenstam was dominant at the par 72 Mission Hills Country Club, finishing the final round with a 68. She was 15 under par for the tournament.

Japan’s Yuri Fudou also played the Nabisco Tournament, finishing eight over par at 296.
