Camp Foster to host world famous band

World Champion Nishihara High School Marching Band is to perform for the troops.

Camp Foster is hosting the talented teens at two shows April 16th at the Camp Foster Gymnasium. The first performance will be at 10:30am, and a second at 1:30pm.

Nishihara High School has consistently been sweeping the world’s top awards for years, and has a baton twirling team that’s keeping pace in putting new trophies in school showcases.

The band has won the Japan Golden Grand Prize for Marching Bands numerous times, and has appeared successfully in a half-dozen international events. First going to Korea in 1993, the marching band found itself Grand Champion at the 1995 National Holiday Bowl Music Festival Concert Band and Jazz Competition in the United States. They repeated a year later in the U.S., then went on to capture a title in Lima, Peru. Aworld Music Contest Kerkrade gold medal cam in 1997, and 1998 saw a World Marching Band Special Jury Awrd.

Nishihara won the World Championships in 1999 in Australia, while picking up a second place in the show band division and a third place trophy in the parade competition. It performed at the 2000 Okinawa Band Festival in Hawaii, and returned to Holland in 2001 to again win the Kerkrade Grand Prize.

While in Europe, Nishihara High School Marching Band moved across to Germany, where it captured the Potsdam World Championship.

The band was founded in 1984, and now has 108 members.
