Airman rips off girlfriend’s business; steals pooch too

Date Posted: 2005-03-11

A Kadena airman apparently miffed in an argument with his tattoo parlor owner girlfriend, broke into the store and stole more than ¥1,820,000 ($17,000) in goods.

Okinawa City Police arrested Sergeant Jamieo Carter on charges of breaking and entering, burglary and theft. They say the 31-year-old airman used a spare key given to him by the girlfriend to break into the business and steal the 1,642 items of merchandise, a facsimile machine, and the dog. The incident occurred nearly a week ago, but police were on the case quickly.

The dog’s been recovered, along with the fax machine. Authorities say Ramada Renaissance Hotel employees in Onna found many items from the tattoo parlor in the bushes near the hotel, then called police. Some items identified the owner.

While police were collecting the stolen loot, a man later identified as Carter was spotted near the hotel. He was apprehended, then identified by the store owner.

The case has been turned over to the Naha Public Prosecutor’s Office for action.
