Thief snatches jewels from private residence

Date Posted: 2005-02-11

Okinawa City Police got the call Sunday evening.

“Help me, someone’s broken in and stolen my jewels”. An Okinawa City Chuo area camera shop owner is reporting someone had entered the second floor residence above his store.

A total of ¥12,000,000 ($117,647) in jewelry had been stolen, including heirloom necklaces, watches and jewel studded rings. Police are now investigating.

The focus is on the second floor, where the owner and family were not home when a burglar apparently used rocks and stones to break a window for entry. The bedroom and living room were ransacked and trashed, with dresser drawers tossed to the floor. Police are taking fingerprints and examining evidence left by the thief.
