14-year old nabbed for Gushikawa theft

Date Posted: 2002-05-17

Gushikawa Police has apprehended a 14-year old boy for taking 8 million from the house of a 49-year old man in Gushikawa City, May 5. The police say that they found the boy's fingerprints from the drawer where the money was taken from and other places in the bedroom of the house.

According to investigators, the boy said that he had been checking houses in the neighborhood at random and went inside when he found an unlocked door. He then discovered that the locker in the bedroom drawer was the only place in the house that was locked and pried it open. He told investigators that he spent the money on meals, game centers and also gave a lot of it to his friends. He had only 560,000 left when he was apprehended.

The police say that the boy has been truant since January when he left his home and has been staying mostly with his friends and in hotels. The police found him after they contacted the area hotels looking for any suspicious persons. They apprehended the boy in a hotel he was staying, and he reportedly immediately confessed to taking the money.
