Cops bust seven in Matsuyama cleanupDate Posted: 2004-12-09 It’s filled with shops, bars, clubs, hostess clubs, cabarets and restaurants that are open virtually all night. Matsuyama is filled with tourists and local businessmen alike. It’s also an area that’s drawn more than 1,400 complaints from the public this year for everything from fights to drunkenness to prostitution. A police crackdown this week put five club managers in jail, along with two bar owners. There are now 84 policemen from the city’s vice squad patrolling Matsuyama. Officials say the complaints range from illegal parking to bar boys hustling customers, to very young teenagers working the area and soliciting for sex. They say there are also foreign women working as dancers without proper work visas. Violence, fights and drunken brawls also have police concerned. The city’s goal is to clean up the area, and make the entertainment district a more safe environment that presents a good image to tourists. |
