Bush leadership supports realignment proposals

Date Posted: 2004-10-14

Condoleezza Rice, America’s National Security Advisor, and Japanese Foreign Minister Nobotaka Machimura agree there must be changes to the troops stationed in Okinawa.

Rice tells reporters the Okinawa burden must be reduced, and the military presence spread in a way to make security functions more efficient. She adds that the same concerns should apply to other communities hosting U.S. military bases.

While supporting change, Rice says she’s totally aware of the Okinawa problems, and insists talks will continue between the two governments to maintain momentum on talks related to change.
