Drownings plague Okinawa waters

Waters stirred up by passing Super Typhoon Chaba last weekend claimed the lives of two swimmers on Okinawa.

The body of a dead man was found on the beach at Ginbaru, near Camp Hansen and Kin Town. Police donít know yet who the man is, and exactly how he died. They say heís an Asian male, 2-40 years of age, about 170 centimeters tall and weighing 60 kilograms. He was wearing a gray shirt with no sleeves, and pants. The beach is inside the Ginbaru military exercise area.

The other incident happened outside Kerama Archepelago. A body was found floating on the water by a dive boat operator. The boat captain called the 11th Maritime Safety Agency and they took the body.

Police stations were canvassed to see if anyone had been reported missing. One was, a man missing from the waters outside Ginowan Convention Center August 22nd. He was identified as Teruo Sakima, 49, of Urasoe City. Heís believed to have drowned.
