Woman assaulted by unknown assailant in central Okinawa

Date Posted: 2004-08-27

An Okinawa woman was assaulted early Sunday morning in the bedroom of her resident in central Okinawa.

Okinawa Prefectural Police have not said where the incident occurred. According to police, they are searching for a male Caucasian believed to be in his mid-40’s, with a round face and perm-like hair. Police say they are not ruling out the possibility the man may be with the U.S. military.

Investigators say the man entered the apartment through an unlocked door, then committed an act with the woman. They say the woman was home alone, and that the door was unlocked because she was expecting her family to return.

Police have contacted the Naha Defense Facilities Administration Bureau, and the Prefecture’s Military Base Affairs Office is confirming the facts, but says they have no information.

Police say they’ve taken fingerprints and have body fluids from the man which were taken from the room. They say they have no leads in the case.
