Street fight turns bizarre as bystander interferes with cops

Date Posted: 2004-07-29

It began as a somewhat typical situation; two Americans fighting at 3am outside a Ginowan City Futenma area bar.

Two police officers arrived on scene, stepped between the two to stop the fight, and began arbitrating, encouraging them to “stop fighting now.” For police, it was a somewhat routine action.

Suddenly though, a 51-year-old man decided to step in as well, getting in the middle of the action and pulling one of the policemen away. Maties Simon told them “go away. Hey, don’t do it. Let them be!” He continued grabbing the policemen, jerking their uniforms.

Police weren’t impressed. They let the two fighting Americans go, and arrested Simon, the interfering bystander.
