Date Posted: 2004-07-22

An Okinawa City taxi driver is no longer driving his cab after being arrested and charged with stealing a customerís money.

Yoshikazu Nakasone, 61, a driver with Okinawa City Minami Toubaru Taxi, reportedly stole •170,000 from a passengerís wallet. Police say the incident occurred late night Sunday, when the drunken customer took Yoshikazuís cab from Ginowan.

The customer reportedly was very drunk and slept in the taxi during the drive to his home. Police say the driver stopped the taxi, took the money, then continued on to the destination. Upon arrival he woke the passenger, who discovered his money gone when he went to pay.

The passenger turned out to not be too drunk, as he called police and detained the taxi driver. Police, on arrival, found the missing •170,000 in the taxi driverís pocket.
