Another counterfeit case involves American suspectDate Posted: 2004-07-22 The weekend passing occurred at Okianwa City Chibana area’s hospital, inside the gift shop. The man, 34-year-old John William, was purchasing snacks costing ¥130 from the store, paying with a ¥10,000 bill. He received his ¥9,870 change and left before the clerk noticed the money felt strange. She described it as looking different, and somewhat transparent. Police responding to the call agreed the money was fake, and went looking for the man who passed it. The clerk described William well, and police apprehended him thenext day as he walked alone near the hospital. He denies police questions and charges, saying the clerk is lying. Police aren’t letting him go though, and the investigation continues. Gushikawa police, meanwhile, are reporting three other phone calls from businesses saying a man was purchasing snacks with fake money. Those claims are being investigated as well. |
