Appliance chain to open stores in Okinawa soon

Date Posted: 2004-07-16

Shoppers in Okinawa will soon have a store operated by the number one electrical appliance manufacturer in Japan.

Yamada Electronics is going to open in Okinawa next week. Itís chain stores in mainland Japan blanket every prefecture. The stores offer inexpensive televisions, stereos, refrigerators and a wide range of home electronics goods.

The new store will be in Gushikawa City Maehara Route 32, near the Jusco Shopping Center. It was to have opened during Golden Week in May, but procedural difficulties slowed the authorizing paperwork.

The store plans to target young people. In the same shopping area, plans are for a clothing store, Shimamura, also targeting the younger generation. It will open soon, say organizers.

The Yamada Electronics group was founded in 1983, providing normal household appliances. They now offer digital electrical appliances, and each year sales exceed the previous year.

A unique store speciality is one-day sales specials. For example, they may declare Monday to be television special day, with prices slashed 50% for that day only. Another marketing tactic is to offer special prices to the first 100 customers for a select item. It promotes frequent patronage.
