Japan Airlines to drop Naha-Taipei service

Date Posted: 2002-01-24

As part of their 2002 operating plan, Japan Airlines has announced a suspension of the company’s Naha-Taipei service effective in April. The route, operated by subsidiary Japan Asia Airways, has been unprofitable for some time and will be replaced by an additional flight to and from Nagoya. According to the JAL Okinawa office, planes bound for Taipei have been departing at between 50 and 60 percent capacity. In addition, the office reports that company operations have been adversely affected in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States. The China Airlines route between Taiwan and Okinawa remains unchanged.
