AAFES, Workers Union, DFAB continue squabble over Kadena

Date Posted: 2004-07-16

Finger pointing continued this week in the case of alleged abuse of several female employees at the Kadena Base Exchange in May.

It began with charges that two employees were forced to work unreasonable hours, despite being pregnant and tired, and asking to be allowed to go home. The case went to the All Garrison Forces Labor Union, which sided with the employees and asked the Defense Facilities Administration Bureau to investigate.

According to reports, DFAB told the workers union the Army Air Force Exchange Service had taken measures internally, reprimanding the manager charged with the worker abuse. The Okinawa Area Exchange Manager fired back, saying it didnít happen, and that nobody was reprimanded.

That aggravated the labor union, which went back to DFAB, which insists AAFES told them there was disciplinary action. DFAB is now investigating further.
