Date Posted: 2004-07-10

An early morning accident July 4th sent an American Marine and two others to a prefecture hospital.

Details are sketchy as to how the 6:30am accident occurred on Highway 58 in Ginowan, not far from Camp Kinser. Officials say the care driven by the 26-yer-old Marine crashed into a tree as he traveled northbound on the highway, then careened into the Makeman Home Center.

The driver, A high school girl and an 18-year-old girl in the car were also injured, one suffering a broken neck. They were reportedly in the back seat.

Police are trying to figure out how the accident occurred, as the roadway was straight and there were no traffic obstructions. They say they’ll continue their investigation once the Marine is released from the hospital.
