Cops nab two in Motobu for possessing drugs

Two northern Okinawa men are in police custody today, charged with having a large quantity of drugs.

Motobu police caught the pair after being tipped they had dry hemp and grasses. Kyuntoku Katou, 55, of Higashi Village, and Seijim Oshiro of Iheya Village, were arrested and charged with possessing more than six kilograms of hemp.

Their stash is valued at •24,000,000. It is the largest drug seizure in Okinawa since 1975, according to police investigators.

Oshiro is described as a gangster from the Yamaguchi gang.

Katou had the dry hemp inside his refrigerator. Police say the drugs had been grown at Nara Prefecture and brought to Higashi Village and smoked. Katou told police he got the seeds from Oshiro and his gangster group.

Oshiro was planting the grass at various farmers fields. Police say it was a commercial endeavor, and are asking Oshiro where he got the hemp seeds. Oshiro isnít talking, yet.
