Eargasm Full-Moon Party Rocks the Sounds of Psychedelic Trance

The sounds of psychedelic trance music will dominate the island of Iheya this 4th of July weekend. Whether you are familiar with trance music or not, you’re sure to have a good time at this year’s Eargasm party. Featuring live performances, several DJs, and one of the hottest visual jockeys in all of Japan, this will likely be the most electrifying dance party on Okinawa this year.

This is the third Eargasm party. The first two took place on Toguchi beach in 2000 and 2001. This year’s party is looking to be a huge improvement over the past two—which were both excellent! “This year’s Eargasm is 3 days long, it’s not on the main island of Okinawa, and it features two groups of artist doing live performances, which brings a lot more excitement and energy to the party,” says DJ SkI, one of two organizers of the event.

The party kicks off on July 2 at sunset and will go nonstop until sunset, July 4. This year’s lineup includes live performances by Andy Shiva from the Lemurians (Germany) and Keystone—a group based on Okinawa. DJ Full Moon Mondo (New World / Osaka) will be accompanied by veteran DJs Yoshitake, Takayuki, Gussi, and SkI. As the event’s VJ (visual jockey), Act74 (New World / Osaka) will blow your mind.

This year’s party has an added sense of adventure. The party takes place at Iheya Island, and island off the northern coast of Okinawa, so it’s like going on a small vacation. To get there, you’ll have to drive to the northern end of Okinawa and take a ferry ride. Prepare for an overnight stay on the beach. Ferry rides between Okinawa and Iheya are only available a few times every day. Ferry ticket payment is not included in the price to attend Eargasm, but a discount of ¥250 is cut from the ferry price for all who purchase Eargasm advance tickets. For driving directions and ferry schedules, check out http://www.gsv2.com/eargasm/transportation.htm. Also, shelter is not provided, so bring a tent. Pack light, though. Bring only the necessities. “You don’t have to worry about bringing much to the party,” says SkI. “Plenty of food and drink vendors will be present.”

Flyers are available at various shops around Chatan and Hamby town, and you can get your tickes at the Spin City record shop in the Plaza House Shopping Center on Route 330 just north of Camp Foster. Tickets are also available at Freak Show Record Shop on Kokusai Street in Naha City. Admission to the party is ¥2,000 or $20 for advance tickets or ¥2,500 or $25 at the door. For more information, check out www.gsv2.com/eargasm, call 080-1720-3925 (English), 090-3141-1133 (Japanese), or email dj_ski69@yahoo.com or angelinamaya@hotmail.com.

“We’d like to give a special thank-you to all those who are involved in helping make this party greater than any of the previous Eargasm parties,” says SkI. “We’d especially like to thank the people of Iheya Island for giving us the beach!”

Once you get the the party, you’re sure to have a good time. “Mika and I throw these parties not to make money or for personal gain,” says SkI. “We do this because we love to party and want to be able to give back to everybody else what we enjoy—which is trance music. You’ll have a wonderful time! Bom Shankar!”
