Motorcycle struck from behind by police car

Two teenagers were injured over the weekend when their stolen motorcycle was struck by a police car.

The incident at Aja Intersection at Highway 58 occurred when police crashed into the rear of the motorcycle stopped at a traffic light. The two 15-year-old boys were injured. One had his legs broken, while the other suffered chest injuries.

Police say it happened as they were pursuing groups of boys who’d reportedly stolen a motorcycle. Two police cars were giving chase, running with their red lights and sirens going.

A police official says there were a number of motorcycles in the area as the boys tend to run in groups or gangs.

The accident happened when one of the groups was stopped. Police were pursuing the stolen cycle, but say the one involved in the accident

Police Chief Tadashi Kohagura says “we would like to apologikze to all citizens. We are giving advice to every policeman to drive very carefully. We are again going to give strict training to policemen”.

The police chief says “right now a policeman driver is under investigation for suspicion of causing a road injury.”
