Youngsters steal cash; try to fly away at Naha

Date Posted: 2004-06-10

The two boys looked suspicious, and they had simply too much cash in-hand as they tried to buy airplane tickets to Tokyo.

Airline staff at Naha Domestic Airport were surprised when the 13- and 15-year-old boys flashed the cash and asked to purchase two tickets to Tokyo. They looked strange, said one employee. They didn’t display the usual passenger attitude, and they had too much money in their hands.

Officials called police, who asked the boys “what happened that you have this much money?” Subsequent investigation revealed the boys had been wandering Urasoe May 31st, looking for a “rich looking and unlocked house” to pilfer.

They found a nice house, unlocked, and nobody home. Inside, they found ¥3,000,000. The boys took it, and next decided to visit Tokyo.

Meanwhile, the home owner had discovered the theft and reported the loss to police. As police added up the two separate incidents, they had the answer.

And they have the boys, who are in custody. The money is being returned to its rightful owner.
