Election campaign in full swing

Date Posted: 2004-06-04

The election campaign for Okinawa Prefectural Assembly seats is now under way. It officially began Sunday, with candidates making speeches appealing to their individual policies and characters.

In Naha, candidates criss crossed the city, visiting potential voters in Heiwadori and Kokusai in downtown, and going to Makishi Public Market to appeal to shop owners and customers alike. They visited souvenir shops, variety stores, and simply wandered the streets talking to people.

Candidates’ pitches ranged from simple to complex. One wants to improve the downtown. Another pledges to improve on welfare problems and solutions. All of them brought their entourages, flags, and megaphones who repeatedly pitched the virtues of their candidate.

At the beginning, on 58-year-old market worker says now “I will vote, but this election doesn’t heat up though.”
