Date Posted: 2004-06-04

The Linden, a tree originating in India, is again being planted in Okinawa. The Linden, which according to the story of Buddha, is under which Buddha was spiritually reawakened centuries ago. The tree, which originated from Budagaya in India, was planted at the statue of Toukai Park Sunday by relatives.

The tree plantings were not done overseas since the year 300BC, until in Itoman last year. Relatives are making an effort “to be the place where there is never a repeat of war.”

This particular tree is called “St.Linden venerable Buddha.” Some 100 people attended the ceremony, during which the priest from India planted three trees, sprinkling them with water from India’s Gangees River. The priest, Sumeda, said “I pray for spirts who died for the tragedy of war. May the planting make good relations of India and Japan.”
