Bureaucratic rules may cost rescued dog his life

Date Posted: 2004-06-04

A dog rescued from the river in Naha City may find his life taken away anyway, thanks to local government rules. The dog was pulled from the swirling waters last Saturday by a Mr. Kinjo, who has since been feeding and caring for the animal. Now the problem: if the owner is not found, the dog will be put to sleep.

Kinjo’s appealing to the owner to come forward and retrieve his pet. If not, Kinjo must turn the animal over to the authorities. He says the dog has an owner, he thinks, because he has a collar. Kinjo hopes the dog’s master is worried, and searching for him.

The Ryukyu Shimpo newspaper company has been asked to help as well, asking the City Environment Preservation at Ozato not to euthanize the dog.

The dog’s owner can call 098-945-3043 to reunite with his pet.
