Okinawa Longevity Post Conference Site Debuts

Date Posted: 2002-05-03

For the first time, OICL (Okinawa International Conference on Longevity) was able to convey to the world through this scientific conference Okinawa's successful aging. Surprisingly, more than a dozen major newspapers and medical journals published about the conference. In Japan alone, twenty four (24) million readers had accessed the conference through print medium. Likewise, their homepage had an average of 10,000 "hits" a month from all over the world. Aside from many television news reports, the conference was featured in a nationwide NHK Educational Program on Longevity for four consecutive nights in January 2002 (2 months after the conference)

Although the topics discussed on Okinawan longevity was just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak, participants eagerly paid attention to the presentations. A total of 242 registered delegates from 14 countries attended the conference. OICL presented a high quality scientific program focused on healthy longevity and Okinawan successful aging. Other topics related to longevity such as molecular, biological, clinical and geriatric medicine to human aging were also presented at the conference. They had seven keynote speakers representing different specialties and yet, all were related to aging and longevity. Most of the keynote and invited speakers are considered world-class researchers, academicians and clinicians. Their abstracts are all posted on the Post Conference homepage located at www.oic-longevity.wwma.net.
