Fishermen missing after boat overturns near Itoman

Two boating fishermen are missing after their pleasure craft capsized off the coast early Tuesday morning. The local office of the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) says it has dispatched patrol boats to the scene to search for the two. The11th Coast Guard Agency said that around 9 a.m., crewmembers of a coast guard aircraft spotted a pleasure boat capsized off Itoman. The boat sank at around 3:40 p.m.

The two fishermen, Tomio Arakaki, 65, a self-employed man living in Haebaru, and pensioner Yoshihide Nakamura, 66, of Tomigusuku, are believed to have been aboard the boat, the six-meter-long Takemaru. Their cars were parked at Itoman Fishing Port where the boat is usually moored.
